Midwifery is a comprehensive relationship that begins with the story of your body. Through prenatal care we get to know you as an individual. Kara and Liz are on call from 37 weeks until your birth. We come to your home to facilitate your labor and birth in a safe space, offering holistic and evidence-based care in the spirit of the Midwifery Model. For some people this means water birth, while others prefer to birth on land. No two births are the same and we are prepared for what works best for you.

Once your baby is born and in your arms, the midwife will remain with you for 3-4 hours postpartum to monitor your health as well as your baby’s.

The midwife will perform a complete newborn exam, support breastfeeding/ chestfeeding, and support your transition into parenthood.

Our care continues for six weeks after your birth. Routine postpartum visits happen in your home on day 1, day 3, one week, and two weeks, with a final visit back at The Root at 5-6 weeks postpartum.
