About

Children's Sunflower House & Garden has served young children and their families for seventeen years.

The tap root of the program is the initial transition a child, and their family make, at little one's pace.  First, little one meets Teacher Lin for a brief family visit, to become acquainted, before joining lesson times. For a child younger than 18 months, private & small group socializing times are scheduled weekday afternoons.  For a child 18months or older, a comfortable transition into the weekday group program hours of 9am - 12 / 12:30pm, is planned.  Parents stay with little one until the skill of separating happily is established.  The length of initial lesson times is based on little one's comfort.

As a media free program, that has been thoughtfully designed to hold time and space, for all to process and explore, this program is a haven for little ones and their families.

An indoor and outdoor learning environment, have been created to ensure safety, inspire creativity, and foster the holistic development of each individual, within this loving children's community.

A seasonal curriculum, based on new moons, brings the magic and wonder of nature into a form that young children very much understand and celebrate.  Puppet plays bring nursery rhymes to life for each new moon cycle.  Art times include a simple essence of the new moon cycle.  Movement and dance weave through the lesson time, further celebrating the new moon cycle theme.  Garden time confirms all that has been explored in song, story, lesson books, dance and picture.  As the children breath in the lessons, they also breath out their personal understanding and relationship to all that has been taken in.

Children enjoy a spacious and calm outdoor space, which is a well established organic garden, designed to allow children to develop their bodies, enjoy the elements, each other, and nature.  Organic - vegetarian meals are enjoyed at the lesson tables, that are part of the awning covered learning space, in the garden.

All the necessary garden gear is supplied and maintained by this program(boots, hats, rain jackets & rain pants).

In the course of the indoor lesson times, little ones play with open ended toys that are made of natural materials.  There are also puzzles, age appropriate books that reflect the natural science curriculum and celebrate diversity in all its forms.  Potty and dressing skills are also learned in the natural course of participation, at a child's pace, and with the support and encouragement of peers, parents, and teacher.

Daily Journal Emails are sent to parents to share pictures and highlights of each lesson time.  There are no social media posts or accounts for this program.
